Convert your wired earphones/headphones to wireless 🎧

If you have wired earphones or headphones and you are annoyed by its short wire due to which it always falls off from your ear then your worries will fly away after reading this post because in this post I will show you how to convert your wired earphones into a wireless one. No, no I won't show any life hack or DIY instead I will just introduce you to two apps that are made to simplify your life. You can use your phone's speaker as a speaker for your PC and then just connect the wired earphones/headphones with your phone. Your phone is wireless and if you use your earphones with it then your earphones will function as wireless for your PC and you can roam in your whole house or office without any worry.

In this trick, two applications are available which allows you to transfer sound in real-time

  1. AudioRelay
  2. Soundwire

AudioRelay

Case 1: Both Phone and PC connected with the same WIFI

Step 1: Open the desktop application and then come to your phone and open the phone's app.

Step 2: After checking that both devices are on the same wifi click on the search button and in few seconds it will show the name of your PC followed by an IP address.

Step 3: Click on the name of your PC and now you are connected with your PC. Now each and every sound your PC creates as an output will be heard from your phone's speaker too. Though this is wireless yet it has almost negligible latency in transmitting the audio.

Case 2: Both Phone and PC connected with different networks

Step 1: Connect your PC with your phone's hotspot(Settings >> Other Wireless Connections >> Personal Hotspot >> Toggle the hotspot's button)

Step 2: Open the client and the server app i.e android app and desktop app.

Step 3: Click on the search button and wait, you'll see the name of your PC followed by an IP. Just click there and you'll be connected wirelessly and the devices will start transmitting sounds. The latency experienced will be depending upon your internet connection speed, In most cases, it will be very less.

SoundWire

The benefit of Soundwire over AudioRelay is that AudioRelay is in early access mode which means development is currently being done on it while Soundwire is stable which means you will experience comparatively fewer bugs in Soundwire.

Step 1: Download the app from here. And server/desktop client from here. Install the desktop client and open it.

Follow the instructions below depending on your situation:

Case 1: Both Phone and PC are connected on the same WIFI

Step 2: Just open the desktop application and come to the phone.

Step 3: Now in the phone, just long-press the logo button in the app and it will auto-locate the server on the WIFI you're connected with and it will start transmitting the audio to your phone in real-time(minimal lag).

After seeing the connected status - Enjoy your wireless speaker.😀

Case 2: Both the devices connected to different networks

In this case, you've to first connect your PC to your phone's hotspot and then proceed further.

Step 2: Hover your mouse on the "Server Address", now you'll see some IP addresses which you have to enter in your android app. Try each and every address which is seen in the desktop application because due to wifi connection or some other issue one or the other IP address might be incorrect.

Note: Here, I can see 3 addresses. In your case, the IPs and the number of IPs might differ.

Step 3: After trying an address just peek at the desktop screen to look for status. Once the status is seen connected, your that IP worked and now you can enjoy your wireless speaker. 😀
